There have been many incarnations of Superman. He has appeared in amusing books, cartoons, tv shows, and movies. But perhaps the iconic Superman is the one created by George Reeves, who appeared as The Man of Steel from 1951-1958 in one movie (Superman and the Mole Men) and 104 television episodes. Reeves only took the role because he needed the work. He actually considered himself to be a film actor and looked down on television as an obnoxious medium. Later, after the vast success of Superman, he found himself typecast and unable to find work.
Reeves’ big shatter in the movie business came in 1939 when he was cast in the blockbuster “Gone With the Wind.” This excellent YouTube video chronicles both the show and Reeves’ career. Especially poignant is Jack Larsen’s (Jimmy Olsen) reminiscences about Reeves. Read the rest of this entry

So if you want to be able to properly bash the upcoming superhero and comic book of 2010, you’ve got a lot of reading and looking at pictures to do:
The Losers – April 9, 2010 - Here’s one of the upcoming superhero movies of 2010 based on a comic book series that mainstream moviegoers might not be too familiar with. ‘The Losers’ isn’t so much a superhero movie as it is a high-octane action movie featuring an elite group of trained commandos (formerly a Special Forces team) out for revenge against the CIA and their stale leader CIA after he leaves them for dead. The group is tranquil in part of a hacker, sniper, a pilot, and a cold-blooded femme fatale killer that will be played by every geek’s newest dream girl, Zoe Saldana. I have the attention of a third grader when it comes to superhero movies and humorous books. There are just way too many funny books out there and too many superheroes to follow with alternate backgrounds and conflicting stories, so I tend to lose interest in them exquisite quickly. So when it comes to superhero movies, I purchase just seeing the first movies and avoid seeing the sequels until they come on TV at some point (plus sequels usually seem to degrade as they go along). So this is a look at a few of the upcoming superhero movies for geeks to pan that aren’t sequels. Just be prepared to scrutinize a lot of nerd propaganda about them in the coming months:
The Green Lantern – Mighty ado has been made about this upcoming superhero movie as of late, because a face has finally been placed behind the cover. Ryan Reynolds, known for his role as Deadpool in one superhero movie, ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’, a man who lands a cantankerous cougar in romantic comedy ‘The Proposal’, and, of course, the real-life hubby of Scarlett Johansson, will be the man with the magic ring in what could be one of the more spirited superhero movies of 2011, or a bomb like ‘Daredevil’. The Green Lantern’s superpower comes from a ring that, for some reason or another, is powerless against wood. How that is going to be turned into a sleek and sexy super-weakness (like Superman’s aversion to kryptonite) has not been revealed, and it will be interesting to see how this movie comes together. But one thing’s for sure: this old-fashioned superhero (he gets his superpowers from a lantern) is going to need a big modern overhaul, and speculation on the movie will be titanic at Comic-Con.
